Overview

The main objective of the Master's Degree of Banking and Finance is to offer the students a master's degree opportunity that provides a distinguishing advantage in the banking and finance areas.

The curriculum includes the transfer of both academical and theoretical information. Besides this, the operation of current processes in banking and finance sectors are shared on the basis of real life situations.

Students of the Master's Degree of Banking and Finance will be well-equipped to improve their career, get better status in institutions, find jobs in other institutions and become a competent finance manager.

Everybody who works or wants to work in finance institutions including banking sector and in finance sections of other institutions can apply for this program. Lectures will be held online by giving the opportunity for direct communication with the teachers. Therefore, it is considered that enrolling on this master's degree while working might be advantageous thanks to the flexible structure.

Academic program

The Master's Degree of Banking and Finance is a master's degree program without a thesis (requires a dissertation).

Duration of the program is minimum 3 semesters and maximum 6 semesters. It includes 10 lessons which have 30 course credits in total.

Lessons are in Turkish.

Faculty

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cenktan Özyıldırım

He is the coordinator of Finance Master's Degree program in Istanbul Bilgi University. After completing his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering department of Bosphorus University in 1997, he had his Mater's Degree from the Economy department of Bosphorus University in 1999 and received his PhD on finance in the same university in 2004. Becoming assoc prog. dr in 2012, Cenktan Özyıldırım offers lessons mostly on financial modeling and quantitative methods.

 

Assist. Prof. Dr. Ebru Reis

Ebru Reis, Coordinator of Online Banking and Finance Master's Degree Program of Istanbul Bilgi University, received her undergraduate degree in Industry Engineering department of Bosphorus University in 1997 and the next two years worked as an expert in the corporate finance divisions of Interbank and Interyatırım. Having completed her master's and doctoral degrees in finance area in Georgia State University, Reis has also published in prestigious finance magazines like Journal of Finance, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Aapplied Corporate Finance.  She worked as a lecturer in Miami University and Bentley University between the years 2006 an 2013. Reis works as an assistant professor in Istanbul Bilgi University since 2014. while also lecturing in the MBA program of Yeditepe University part-time, 

Her research subjects focuses on corporate finance, amalgamation of businesses, wage packets of senior managers, behavioral finance and international finance. She has made presentations in esteemed finance conferences such as EFA, FMA and SFA in the USA, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Denmark and Turkey. She was awarded the "Excellence in Teaching Award" of Georgia State University in 2005, and "Best Paper in Corporate Finance" of Southern Finance Association in 2010. 

 

Assist. Prof. Dr. Genco Fas

He completed his bachelor's degree in the Math department of Bosphorus University. Then, he worked in the establishment process of Internet Banking and E-Trade Department of Koçbank A.Ş. Genco Fas completed his master's degree in the Math Department of Yeditepe University and his doctoral degree in the Industry Engineering Department of Bosphorus University with a thesis on game theory applications in the control of stochastic inventory. Still working as the director of Banking and Finance Master's Degree Program of Bilgi University, Mr Fas is also a member of the Committee of Preparing Exam in the Prime Ministry Undersecretariat of Treasury and works as a consultant in private sector in the area of actuary. 

 

Dr. Cengiz Doğru

Having received his undergraduate degree in Finance and Economy Department of Hacettepe University, master''s degree in Department of Business in Bosphorus University and doctoral degree in Finance and Banking Department of Kadiir Has University, Dr. Cengiz Doğru has respectively worked as Vice Chairman of Committee of Bank Examiners in Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency, and Vice General Director in Kentbank and Anadolubank. Today, he is a Board Member of Anadolubank and also lectures in Banking and Finance Master's Degree Programs of Bilgi University. Dr. Doğru also has articles in peer-reviewed journals in the area of banking. 

 

Dr. Ramazan Başak

Having Undergraduate Degree from Faculty of Political Sciences of Ankara University, master's and doctoral degrees from Finance and Banking Department of Kadir Has University, Dr. Ramazan Başak has respectively worked as a Bank Examiner in the Ministry Undersecretariat of Treasury,  Department Head of Financing and Fund Management of the Prime Ministry Privatization Administration, Vice Chairman of the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) of Finance Ministry, Vice General Director of Etibank, Board Member of Eti Menkul Değerler AŞ and Eti Leasing AŞ., General Director / Board Member of Şeker Faktoring AŞ and Non-Executive Director of  Ziraat Bank AD Skopje. Still working as the Board Chairman of Devir Faktoring AŞ:, Dr Başak also has the Certified Public Accountant Certificate (YMM) and Independent Auditor Certificate of Public Oversight Authority (KGK). Giving lectures in various subjects including banking and finance regulations and MASAK regulations, Dr. Başak has written a book titled “50 Soruda Kara Para ve Kara Paranın Aklanmasının Önlenmesi’’ published by the Banking Association and Istanbul Chamber of Certified Public Accountants, and also many articles in various newspapers and magazines. 

 

Dr. Yusuf Varlı

After completing his undergraduate education in Math-Economy Departments in Istanbul Bilgi University and London School of Economics,  Dr. Yusuf Varlı worked as a Research Assistant in the Economy Department of Iowa University and received his master's degree from there. Completing his doctoral studies in Istanbul Bilgi University, he also went to Syracuse University in the USA as a guest researcher. Today, he keeps working in Borsa Istanbul. Among his interests, there are Islamic Finance, Real Estate Financing, Applied Econometrics and Behavioral Finance. Dr. Varlı has published articles in nationally and internationally acknowledged magazines.

 

Anıl Abbak

Graduated from the Math Department of Yeditepe University, he continued his master's degree in the Finance Engineering of Politecnico Di Milano and became an expert on derivative financing instruments. After his studies in world's leading stock brokers, Mr Abbak became a part of Tacirler Yatırım Menkul Değerler. Today, he works as FXTCR and Galatasaray Forex Manager that are the leading brands of the sector. He speaks English, Italian, Russian and German languages, and he has written 3 books on forex and technical analysis subjects. 

 

Bülent Şenver

Bülent Şenver is a graduate of Accounting and Finance Department in Faculty of Administrative Sciences of Bosphorus University, once known as Robert College. He has a reputation among bankers as the guru who makes independent external auditing of 25 banks in Turkey. He is known for the innovation he brought to Turkish banking system. After working as the General Manager of Pamukbank for many years, Mr Şenver has also been assigned as Board Member and Board Chairman in companies that have activities in various sectors, and worked as the auditor in the Board of Directors of the Banks Association of Turkey.

Acting as the project leader for preparation and innovation projects of uniform accounting plan, remote surveillance system, early warning system and standard reporting packages for Turkish banks, Mr Şenver also wrote the books titled, “Banka Bilanço Analizi”, “Kulağınıza Küpe Olsun”, “Gençlere Mektup” and “Başardın”. 

 

Can Pamir

Born in Ankara in 1972, Can Pamir completed his primary and secondary education in TED Ankara College. Entering Business Department of Middle East Technical University in 1991, Mr Pamir completed his education there with 4.00 as the highest ranked student of the Department, Faculty and University. He is the first student to graduate from Business Department with the "highest" rank. Later on he had scholarship in University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. There, he got the highest rank 4.00 with his master's degree in accounting and finance department and he returned back to the country in 1998.

The same year he started his banking career in Corporate Banking Department of Finansbank Ankara Branch, and acted as Deputy Manager of Trade Financing Corporate Banking Departments in Finansbank Switzerland and Finansbank Netherlands.

In 2001-2003, he worked as the investment specialist responsible from Turkish and Croatian banks within International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector division of the World Bank.

Mr Pamir also worked as Vice President in Marketing and Business Development area for Istanbul Office of Finansbank Switzerland in 2003-2005, and as Unit Manager of Product and Customer Developing section of Finansbank General Directorate in September 2005-December 2006.

In December 2006, he joined İş Yatırım in order to establish its Marketing Headquarters. After this task, he worked as the Marketing Manager responsible from the development and coordination of marketing strategy and activities in İş Yatırım until 2015.

In April 2015, he joined Gedik Yatırım as the Deputy Director General responsible from Marketing.

Today, Mr Pamir continues his doctoral studies in the Marketing department of Bilgi University and speaks English and French at proficiency level. Since 2005, he is married with Burcu Gören and they have a daughter named Duru.

  

Mehmet Batılı

After graduating from the Economy Department of Middle East Technical University, he received his MBA degree from Suffolk University-Sawyer School of Management. Started his career as the Management Trainee in Koçbank, Mr Batılı continued his works in Treasury department, and then worked as trader in Money Markets, Foreign Exchange Market and Derivatives Markets. In 2000, he left the title of Treasury Group Manager of Koçbank and worked as Treasurer in Daimler Financial Services Company and Deputy General Director responsible from Treasure in Credit Agricole CIB Turkey. Finally he had the position of assistant CEO in Standard Chartered Bank Turkey. Working as a manager in finance Markets for more than 20 years, Mr Batılı speaks English at proficiency level. 

 

Selahattin Serbest

Completing his undergraduate and master's degrees in Faculty of Engineering in Middle East Technical University, Mr Serbest received MBA degree from University of California, Riverside and PMD-65 degrees from Harvard University.

Having worked as a senior manager in Banking sector for almost thirty years, Selahattin Serbest was also the General Director of Demirbank in 1993-1999. Today, Mr Serbest gives lectures in Bank Management, International Financing and Foreign Business Financing in Bilgi University and Ozyegin University; and also offers financial consultancy services mostly to foreign banks.

 

Sertan Kargın

Sertan Kargın has been giving lectures as part-time instructor in Social Scinces Institute of Istanbul Bilgi University since February 2013. At the same time, he continues his work as the Head Economist of Eczacıbaşı Yatırım ve Portföy Yönetimi A.Ş. starting from February 2010. He has had similar duties in various bank and stock brokers in his professional business life that is almost 20 years now. In 2008, he was awarded with the second prize in the inquiry of the most favorite Economist of A Developing Country by Reuters Extel Survey. He holds a master's degree in Economy and Finance department of Bosphorus University. He had his undergraduate education in Economy department of Istanbul University in English and graduated in 1995.
