Overview

The MA in ‘Special (Inclusive) Education’ provides students with the knowledge and skills to support the inclusion of special needs children and adults in education. The program offers insight into education policy and practice, encouraging students to consider the challenges and solutions to ensuring greater inclusion. Students gain an understanding of a range of impairments, along with the skills to meet special educational needs in mainstream institutions of learning. Courses also include research methods, the use of technology in the inclusive classroom, and wider social issues related to disability.

Accreditation

The Interdisciplinary Academic Recognition and Information Agency of Greece (DOATAP–Hellenic NARIC) and the Evaluation Committee of Private Universities (ECPU) of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, the students should be able to:

  • Design, implement and present educational research, including being able to evaluate research projects that focus on inclusive education.
  • Develop the design and analysis of data with statistical techniques that are used in the research of inclusive education or in the design, implementation and presentation of advanced qualitative research.
  • Differentiate between teaching and resources to offer effective support to all students in an inclusive class.
  • Design and implement programs, which can respond to the individual needs of children with disabilities and the wider demands of the curriculum and its approach to inclusive education.
  • Develop further advisory and communication skills for use with parents of children with disabilities to effectively cooperate with them.
  • Employ technology as a means to differentiate their teaching in an inclusive class and in educational practice organized in a school unit, and as a tool for disabled people to access knowledge.
  • Become familiar with the school environment of inclusive education and acquire school experience by practicing the implementation of the contents and core ideas of their studies.

Application requirements

The specific admission requirements for the Master of Arts in Special (Inclusive) Education are:

  • An attested copy of a recognized bachelor’s degree
  • An official copy of academic transcript
  • Two letters of recommendation. Referees can be academic (tutor/instructor) or professional (manager/supervisor).
  • Short report of your personal goals and research interests (up to two pages)
  • Recent CV
  • Copy of High School Leaving Certificate
  • Good knowledge of English is also desirable and it may be demonstrated with one of the following (if any): 
    • Completion of previous degree in institution which the language of instruction was English, or
    • Official submission of TOEFL; IELTS; IGCSE/GCSE; or ECPE test scores
